The Huskies dropped yet another game on the weekend before the Beanpot opener, falling to UNH 3-1. The loss, combined with the rest of the weekend’s results (save for the Maine-Lowell game ongoing right now) leave Northeastern tied for last place in Hockey East.
Overall it wasn’t a terrible game, given that UNH is one of the top teams in the nation. Despite the fact that UNH didn’t seem to really be playing 100%, it was reassuring to see that Northeastern could at the very least put up a decent showing and play a relatively even 60 minutes (which is more than can be said about many of their games this year).
But the bottom line is that the Huskies are in last place and seem less and less likely every week to make the playoffs. In the last 10 league games the Huskies have won 2. Northeastern has crucial games against Maine, UMass and Vermont in the upcoming weeks, and if they can’t manage a winning record against them then they’re very unlikely to make it to the 8th place spot.
