After a pretty rough 2011-2012 season, Northeastern managed to score the Roy brothers in the offseason, as well as cleared out a number of players who were “Cronin” guys, replacing them with new players that Madigan and his staff have recruited themselves. The result is a large new crop of players, and most of this team has only ever played under Madigan. Northeastern has a strong forward corp here, with Karlsson, Vermeersch, Saponari, and now Roy highlighting that group, with lots of potential in guys like Adam Reid, Joe Manno, and Cam Darcy.
The real questions here are defense and goaltending. Rawlings is now playing for a contract, and while this defense may have some rough spots, this is a group that can settle in and be a strong force. The defense recruited also tends to be overagers, so there’s a hope that these guys are more ready to come in and immediately contribute. I think Northeastern has a lot of potential if the defense and goaltending can step up.
