Overview:

After finishing 5th in Hockey East, Merrimack is losing a big core of top players that lead to much of their success over the past few years. Their goalie Joe Cannata has graduated, and Merrimack loses 4 of their top 5 scorers, on a team that ranked 8th in scoring offense this past year. While Merrimack has a number of younger players that can step up and replace some of that offense, losing Cannata is a big blow, and will require Merrimack’s offense to not just replace, but exceed their offensive output from last year. Their goalie, Sam Marotta, had good numbers but only played in one game, so it remains to be seen how he does in a full season of play. Merrimack’s offense will likely be able to add some more power, but I think the loss of Cannata will keep them pretty low in Hockey East.
