Tonight Northeastern faces off in the beanpot warmup against the University of Massachusetts. This will be a very good guide of where the Huskies stand. UMass is a similar team, they’ve had some very good games (including beating BC twice), but also finds themselves quite low in the standings. While we are tied in points, UMass has played fewer games. For Northeastern, a win is crucial both in terms of points, but also because it will maintain a tie in the comparison between us and UMass. A loss or a tie will put the comparison in favor of UMass, which will likely come back to haunt us in March as the teams are neck and neck.
For Northeastern, they need to ride the momentum they built last weekend, and take advantage of a UMass team that was swept by their in-state rival, UMass-Lowell. For Northeastern, that means shutting down their top line of Pereira-Guzzo-Hobbs. UMass still has a weird goalie rotation, so Northeastern needs both a solid performance from Chris Rawlings, as well as a aggressive attack on whatever goalie it is tonight.
If Northeastern plays a solid, aggressive game there’s no reason they shouldn’t pick up a win here tonight
