I don’t even know how to describe this team. In some ways, it compares to the 1982 Husky team that won their first 12, then lost the next 13. This team was down badly, then rose to the occasion for their 8-game winning streak, and now we’re back to sucking.
I think in many ways it was the 8-game win streak, and not our current slide that was the fluke. A non-functioning power-play and taking too many penalties will only get you so far. We took teams by surprise, and built up confidence during our run, which boosted us further. But then last weekend we hit a brick wall, and if last night is any indication, they haven’t found a way to get back on track.
Tonight is crucial for Northeastern. They need to come out of the gate strong and not look back on the failures of yesterday and last week. They have the same lines that propelled scoring thus far, a solid defense and goaltender, and there’s no reason why they shouldn’t be good. Tonight will tell us a lot about where we’re headed in the next few weeks.
