Recruit Update

The NHL released their central ratings today, and 5 Huskies or future Huskies were on the listings. United States of Hockey has a good writeup of some American prospects, including Zach Aston-Reese and Jon Gillies

Zachary Aston-Reese is listed as #76. He hasn’t put up a tons of points, but he’s a big guy, and is also appearing on the USHL’s Top Prospects Game. He has another year of juniors, so look for him to put up more offense in the second half and next year.

Jon Gillies is the 4th ranked North American goalie, and is projected as a 3rd or 4th round pick. He got some bad press with a poor performance this summer in Slovakia, which may have hurt his standings, but he his a very solid goalie and will go mid-rounds most likely.

Cam Darcy clocks in at #103 on North American skaters. He started off as an A prospect, but has since dropped off due to a lack of offensive production (8 points in 32 games). Nevertheless, he’s a big guy who skates well and will also likely be a mid-round pick.

Rounding out the list is Adam Reid at 143 and Joe Manno at 163. Both are overagers, having been eligible next year. It wouldn’t be surprising if one was drafted, but it would be surprising if both were. They’ll have to show their strength in big games where scouts are present (think games vs. BU, BC, etc.).

Overall, this is great to see a number of recruits and current players being looked at by NHL scouts and teams. Drafting is helpful for recruitment, and it shows we’re recruiting good players.
