I apologize for the inactivity, I haven’t had a lot to talk about. I’m hoping to use to start a new feature, looking at random news, standings, whatever around Hockey East, as well as any interesting stories anywhere else in college hockey. So here we go:
-Vermont’s been sucking. Last in goals scored per game, goals allowed per game, 9th on the PP, and last on the PK. They have 1 point, managing to tie UNH this past weekend. To make matters worse, they lose Assistant Captain Chris McCarthy, who was also 3rd place in scoring. UVM seems driven primarily by Connor Brickley and Sebastien Stalberg, and losing an offensive player when you have the worst offense generally doesn’t go so well.
-Speaking of bad teams, what’s Maine’s deal? 4 straight losses now, including being swept at home by UMass Lowell. Things are not going well for the Black Bears. They’re playing UMass Amherst, then the US National Team, then a pair at Vermont, so they need to get some points from them
-Providence, on the other hand, has far surpassed expectations. They stand at 3rd, and really came out of nowhere. I’ve said it before, Nate Leaman is dangerous. Back when Cronin’s departure was rumored, I thought Leaman was a perfect candidate. He did a lot for Union with very little in the way of resources, and he will likely take Providence to a terrific record while he stays there.
-In case anyone was curious, the Recruit and Alumni pages have been updated. Special congratulations to Northeastern Alumni Jason Guerriero, who had a child this past week.
-That’s it for now, Providence and UVM previews would be up tomorrow and Friday, so be on the lookout for them.
