Providence is turning a new leaf, having fired Head Coach Tim Army and replaced him with Union College coach Nate Leaman. The last 3 seasons, Providence was a cellar dweller, failing to qualify for the playoffs. This upcoming season doesn’t look a lot better. Their top 3 point scorers (and 4 of their top 5) and top 4 goal scorers graduated. Granted, PC didn’t have a ton of offense to start with (scoring the least number of goals).
PC has a few upsides. They return most of their defense, only graduating one player, and retain their top goalie in Alex Beaudry. Nate Leaman also is a proven coach, having taken Union from nothing to a ECAC power rapidly. Nate Leaman will be a person to watch in the coming years, he could do some good things with PC, and really hit the ground running with recruiting and outreach once he was hired.
Overall, this is a team that lacks scoring, and needs it badly. It was a new coach, and presumably a new system that may take time to grow. Providence could cause problems down the home stretch as the team takes to the new system, and will likely be stronger in the coming years, but for now, 9th looks most likely.
