Garrett Cockerill, RD gets the honor, who was a member of Detroit Compuware’s U-18 team last year. Where he winds up in this upcoming year remains to be seen, he was drafted 2nd overall in the USHL’s 2010 Futures Draft, and was drafted this year by the NAHL. Muskegon of the USHL, who drafted him, has put him on their affiliate list, making it unlikely he plays there this year, so it seems likely he’ll be in the NAHL, and then spend a year in the USHL. He is expected to come in 2013, so he has 2 years to prepare.
Cockerill had a 6-11-17 line in 37 games this past year, so he has some offensive flair, and already has some size, clocking in at 6’0”, 190lbs. He’s been described as having a solid shot, and good skating ability, and plays with plenty of edge. Hopefully he gets a chance to move up into the USHL sooner rather than later, or at the very least the NAHL to step up his game.
It’s nice to see Madigan and staff already hard at work and out there recruiting players.
